The Significance of Water on Wellbeing - Peppe Öhman

During 2022 Helgabad will introduce a few KAFTAN(EN) users who are sharing their thoughts on water and wellbeing. I hope their thoughts will inspire you.

Our second KAFTAN(EN) profile is Peppe Öhman. Peppe is a journalist and an author. She is also the co-founder of Friday Lab. Friday Lab is a community female network and platform for sustainable life design, inspiration, and fun, for creating a life where a rainy Tuesday feels like a Friday afternoon. Peppe lives in Los Angeles, United States.

Peppe uses her KAFTAN(EN) before and after surfing. Peppe started surfing by taking surf classes whilst living in Buenos Aires and Rio de Janeiro many years ago. ‘When my son started taking classes here in California last year I got inspired. I've been surfing a couple of times a week since then. I learned how to surf by mostly just playing around in the water with a board, and with lots of help from my surf instructor Chris.’
I asked Peppe why she started surfing and she jokingly replied, ‘I think it's mandatory if you live next to the beach in Santa Monica.’ Peppe likes doing things that feel a little bit scary. ‘The waves can get a little bit gnarly here and when I manage to catch a good one it is the best feeling in the world. Whilst surfing, I feel free.’
I had to ask if it hurts to surf and Peppe replied that it does hurt sometimes and that when the waves are big and you get a board crashing into your hand, the pain is real.
This summer Peppe is heading back to Europe. ‘We have a house in the south of Sweden and I'm going to see if the waves are any good at Österlen Surfcenter’.

I too want to learn how to surf, in fact my whole family wants to learn how to surf, hence we will. Thank you Peppe for sharing your surf story.
